Base of the Pyramid Protocol

The Base of the Pyramid Protocol was a pioneering innovation process for sustainably serving communities in the base of the world’s income pyramid (BoP). An early “lean startup” approach focused on the billions of people in low-income communities around the world, the BoP Protocol guides companies through an iterative business and customer development approach that seeks to simultaneously develop new markets and lift up low-income communities.

Role: Field Director and Contributing Author

One of the original implementers of the BoP Protocol and a contributor to the 2nd edition. Recruited, trained, and led venture teams to conduct on-the-ground research, assess opportunities, test business models, and develop rapid prototypes in emerging markets. Marketed the Protocol to multinational companies and non-profits, developed and managed project budgets, and built relationships with implementation partners.
